Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course helps students acquire the basic skills and knowledge to write their graduation thesis on pre-modern western history.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to gather academic texts necessary for their research.
- Students are able to read accurately and critically academic texts written in Japanese or English.
- Students are able to progress their research and to make a logical and convincing presentation on it.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Students’ study time is at least four hours for a class.
(Spring term) They are expected to make a translation of the assigned English text before each class meeting, and after the class to review their own translation.
(Autumn term) They are expected to progress their own research and prepare to make a presentation on it.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on the preparation for each class meeting (40%), the reading comprehension of English texts (40%), and in-class contribution (20%).
