Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course helps students acquire the basic skills and knowledge to read academic texts on western history written in English, by reading them closely.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to understand accurately the meaning of English sentences.
- Students are able to understand accurately the structure and argument of academic texts.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Students’ study time will be at least four hours for a class. They are expected to make a translation of the assigned English text before each class meeting, and after the class to review their own translation.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on the preparation for each class meeting (30%), the reading comprehension of English texts (30%), term-end paper (20%), and in-class contribution (20%).
