Outline (in English)

Course outline: This course outlines the history of the ancient mediterranean world from the birth of Mesopotamia and Egypt to the establishment of Roman hegemony. It also helps students learn how this world was formed throughout its history.
Learning Objectives: The followings are the goals of this course.
- Students are able to acquire fundamental knowledge concerning the history of the ancient Orient, ancient Greece and the Hellenistic world.
- Students are able to explain how the ancient mediterranean world was formed by these three affecting each other.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. They are required to read relevant books, such as those listed in the reference section, and learn by themselves.
Grading Criteria: Grading will be decided based on term-end examination (80%) and in-class contribution (20%).
