Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This course helps students to learn about the diverse culture and literature of English-speaking countries through presentations and discussions about literary text. We will read various short stories (or chapters) in English that can be related to "the other side" and translate some passages into Japanese.

[Learning objectives]
At the end of the course, participants should have acquired the knowledge and skills needed to analyse English literary text and will be able to discuss stories logically from their own viewpoint.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the text closely and prepared for the discussion. The required study time is at least four hours for each class meeting.

[Grading criteria /Policy]
Grading will be decided based on in-class contribution (30%), presentation or chairing (30%) and final essay (40%).
