Outline (in English)
Course Outline: Tang-shi xuan (Selection of Tang Poems) is an anthology of Tang poetry (465 poems) compiled by Li Panlong (1514-1570) during the Ming dynasty, and is known to have been a widely read Chinese classic during the Edo period in Japan. In this course, we will select and closely read relatively short poems from Tang-shi xuan, and while appreciating their appeal, we will complete original translations by critically examining existing Japanese translations, as well as commentaries written in literary Chinese. In addition, we will learn about the social background, culture and customs during the Tang which formed the foundation for the creation of Tang poetry, as well as the forms and rules of Tang poetry.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the course, students will:
A. have acquired basic knowledge about Tang-shi xuan;
B. understand the form and rules of Tang poetry;
C. have acquired basic skills for reading and understanding Tang poetry; and
D. be able to critically examine existing translations and notes and have acquired the ability to interpret Tang poetry in an original way.
Learning Activities Outside of the Classroom: Students are expected to read the presentation material prior to each class. Study time will be a minimum of 4 hours per class.
Grading Criteria/Policy: presentations 40%; participation in discussion 20%; final paper 40%.

【『唐詩選』精読】
『唐詩選』は、明代の李攀龍（1514―1570）が編纂したとされる唐詩の選集（全部で465首の詩を収録）であり、江戸時代の日本で最もよく読まれた漢籍として知られている。本授業では、この『唐詩選』の中から比較的短い詩を選んで精読し、その魅力を堪能すると同時に、既存の日本語訳や漢文で書かれた注などを批判的に検討しながら、オリジナルの翻訳を完成させる。また、唐詩を生み出す土壌となった唐代の社会背景や文化・習慣、さらには唐詩の形式や規則についても併せて学ぶ。

３．唐詩を読解するための基礎的なスキル（辞書の引き方や用例の調べ方を含む）を身につける。
４．既存の訳注を批判的に検討し、作品を独自に解釈・鑑賞する力を身につける。

最初の数回のみ講義形式、残りは演習形式で行う。３年生と２年生から成るグループを作り、担当作品を決める。担当者はレジュメを準備して発表し、その内容を元にして全員で討論する。毎回リアクションペーパーを提出して頂き、そこに書き込まれた質問等については、次回の授業の冒頭でフィードバックを行う。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
発表担当者はその準備、その他の受講者は発表者の担当する詩について予習し、事前に内容を把握した上で、疑問点や検討を要する箇所について整理しておく。授業後には討論で得た情報と意見を自分なりにまとめておく。なお、本授業の準備・復習時間は、各４時間を標準とする。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
報告者としての発表内容（４０％）、学期末レポート（４０％）、討論への参加度・貢献度（２０％）。学期中に必ず一度は発表することが成績評価の前提。
学生の意見等からの気づきChanges following student comments
授業中の討論にほとんど参加せず、聞いているだけの受講者が毎回確認できたので、質問や問題提起をしやすいような雰囲気を作り、場合によっては教員から受講者に質問して回答やコメントを求めるなど、全員参加型の授業となるように工夫をする予定である。
その他の重要事項Others
・毎回、出席調査票を用いて出席をとる予定。
・授業日数の３分の２以上の出席がないと、原則として学期末レポートの提出資格を失う。なお、出席に関する個別の問い合わせには応じないので、欠席回数は受講者が各自で記録し、把握しておくこと。
