Outline (in English)

Students will learn basic theory of FEM and fundamental knowledge necessary for analysis. In the first half of the course, students will learn the history of FEM and its development through contents on computer technology and computational engineering, and understand the concept of FEM with simple models. Following this, students will deal with the approximation of physical quantities in the elements and discretization of FEM by investigating the beam and isoparametric elements. Finally, using the beam element and two-dimensional isoparametric element as examples, students learn the algorithms of finite element method programs, methods of analytical computation, and methods of evaluating the results.
