Outline (in English)

This course examines subjects related to beam, trusses and columns. Students will learn principal structural design through related mechanics in these subjects. Specifically, students will practice: calculating reaction forces, internal forces in members, stresses, and deflection of statically determinate beams with various types of loading and support; application of influence line to calculate internal forces in statically determinate beams under a moving load; analysis of statically determinate trusses, and; calculating Euler’s buckling load.

・Learning Objectives
Explain the concept of basic structural mechanics.

・Learning activities outside of classroom
Review lessons. Standard study time is two hours for each class meeting.

・Grading Criteria
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Mid-term and Term-end examination: 90%, Each class exercises : 10%
