Outline (in English)

This course is designed to teach scientific fundamentals of water flow mechanisms necessary for solving engineering problems in rivers, oceans, aquifers, waterworks, sewers and more. The course is taught through a combination of lectures and exercises so that students enrich their understanding of basic hydraulics as well as learn how to apply the techniques to engineering practices. Students are expected to deeply understand the scientific meaning of hydraulic theory and formulae and stretch their imagination on how hydrodynamics is involved in various phenomena in nature. Through this style of learning, students will gain valuable insight into the world of hydraulics. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grading will be decided based on personal study notebooks (20%), in-class exercises (20%), homework reports (30%), and term-end examination (30%).
