Outline (in English)

This course focuses on sunlight, solar radiation, lighting, and color as light environments in architecture. Students will learn theories of light and color, understand human visual characteristics, and acquire methods to apply them to architectural design.

Through this class, students will be able to:
(1) Understand the position of the sun and learn how to calculate shading, hours of sunlight, solar heat capacity, and the amount of heat received by buildings by solar radiation.
(2) To understand the basic theory of photometric quantities and units, lighting, and illumination, and to master applied methods such as color planning based on color psychology by understanding the color system.

The course comprises a lecture on fundamental theory and exercises with a clear theme. Students are expected to prepare the relevant part of the textbook in advance, attend and understand the lecture independently, and master the theme by doing exercises within a limited time. Students are expected to review the exercises in the class sufficiently. The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

Evaluation will be based on the following ratios: 20% for the exercises in each class and 80% for the final examination.
