Outline (in English)

The 3rd year A/B semester Design Studio course is separated into A and B semesters. The theme of the A semester is “Collective housing + α”, while B is a centered around the theme “libraries of the future”, following the subjects introduced in Unit 4. Studio work classes will have a limited number of participants (as a rule no more than 15 per unit). Students who wish to attend seminars for project-based subjects must enroll in this course.

[Learning Objectives]

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
・Learning how to think conceptually
・ Acquire the skill to read the context from the origin of the city
・Conceive architecture as part of the city
・Recognize social problems and conceive architectural solutions
・ Acquire basic operation of digital tools
・Creating spatial characteristics from engineering ideas

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than eight hours for a class.

[Grading Criteria /Policy]
Comprehensive evaluation of final presentation work based on esquisse and interim presentations. Each week, students will be evaluated on how they worked on their work under the discussion with each studio instructor.
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process First assignment (50%), Second assignment (50%).
Four or more unexcused absences will not be considered for grade.
