Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
Art History is an academic field surrounding works of art that can be said to be mirrors of times, society, and culture. In the lecture, studying the artistic expressions of Western art from the ancient to the twentieth century, considering Western art works taking various forms of expression such as architecture, sculpture, painting, crafts and so on.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to comprehensively discuss masterpieces of Western art from the viewpoint of art history, such as iconographic content, (era / region / individual) style, technique, and characteristics of sculptural expression.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Pre-study: As a preparatory lecture, check the iconography, style, artists, etc. described in the [Lecture Schedule] in reference books (two hours).
Post-study: As a review, focusing on the main subject works handled in the class, based on the commentary during the class, comprehensively from the viewpoint of art history such as iconographic content, (era / region / individual) style, technique, and characteristics of sculptural expression. Deepen your understanding(two hours).

【Grading Criteria /Policies】
Comprehension and proficiency in each lesson will be comprehensively evaluated in light of the above goals, with a 30% normal score, 30% final quiz, and 40% final assignment report.
