Outline (in English)
Europe is only a part of the world just like any other regions on the earth; however, we can't deny its considerable contributions to the formation of the present world. By focusing on these aspects of Europe, this course will lecture on the general flow of its history, from the Antiquity onwards, and the basic terminology for the historical research.At the end of the course, students are expected to have a basic idea about the Europan history. Students will be expected to have completed the required assignments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than two hours for a class. Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the term-end examination.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
西洋は世界の様々な地域の一つであるに過ぎないが、同時に、いま私たちが生きる世界の形成にあたって極めて大きな役割を果たしてきたことも事実である。本講義ではその両面をみすえた上で、西洋近代の歴史を概観し、基本的な歴史用語を解説する。
到達目標Goal
西洋近代の歴史に関する基礎的な知識を習得し、他の地域の歴史と比較したときの独自の特徴と、その後の世界史の形成に果たした役割を理解することができる。
