Outline (in English)
Focusing on the Showa era, when transitioned from modern to post modern, why did Japan go to war?
Focusing on the history of the Showa era from pre-war to post-war in the field of politics diplomacy and military, our purpose is to understand the process from the start of the war to the defeat.
You can understand flow of modern Japanese history from a broader perspective.
Without having a particular historical view or ideology, you can acquire the ability to consider the historical factors that led Japan to go to war in the Showa era by proofs.
Before you take a class, you must understand flow of Japanese history.
You must read the textbook and summarize the main points in your notebook, spending 2 hours learnings.
Your grade will be evaluated by exam held in the final class.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
近代から現代へと時代が移行した昭和時代に焦点をあて、日本はなぜ戦争への道を選んだのか。戦前・戦中・戦後の昭和史を政治・外交・軍事の各分野から紐解き、開戦から敗戦に至る過程を理解することを目的とする。
到達目標Goal
近現代日本の歴史の大きな流れを把握する。昭和時代、日本が戦争への道を選んだ要因について、特定の歴史観やイデオロギーに偏らず実証を旨とし歴史を考察する力を会得する。

日本の歴史の大きな流れを把握しておくこと。テキストをよく読み要点をノートにまとめておくこと。本授業の準備・復習時間は各2時間を標準とする。
