Outline (in English)

1. Course outline
This lecture is mainly on mental health social work and introduces statistical data for people with mental illness in Japan, social work skills, effective community programs including social work and mental health-related stigma. The aims of the lecture are that students gain the relevant information for national examination for the license of mental health social worker, and that students discuss social work and the development and the dissemination of effective community mental health services through learning the relevant statistical data, mental health policies, mental health services and effects of services

2. Learning Objectives
1) Understanding the Statistics of the environment surrounding people with mental illness
2) Gaining an opportunity to consider about effective practices for people with mental illness
3) Gaining an opportunity to consider about social workers’ roles for implementation of effective practices

3. Learning activities outside of classroom
Preparation for each lecture is not necessarily required. For those who wish to deepen their understanding of the lecture content, the standard time for preparation and review for this lecture is one hour each.

4. Grading Criteria /Policy
1) Evaluation method
Reports: 90%, Comments and discussion in the lecture: 10%. The report should be written for one of the following topics: “Recovery”, “Mental health-related stigma”, “Assertive community treatment” “Strengths model”, “Individual placement and support or Supported employment”, “Family support”, or “Peer support”. Reports should be written based on this lecture’s rules.
2) Evaluation criteria
S: Reports with a writing style based on the lecture’s rules, and the texts incorporate own ideas, the lecture contents and data from previous research.
A: Next to the above
B: Reports with a writing style based on the lecture’s rules, but discussion is inadequate
C:Reports with a writing style not based on the lecture’s rules, or reports with very inadequate discussion
D:Reports with inadequate writing style and contents
