Outline (in English)

Course outline
We study the social security system in Japan. It consists of health insurance,nursing-care insurance,pension insurance,unemployment insurance and workmen’s accident compensation insurance.
These insurance system are significantly contributed to the stability of the Japanese people’s living.
We study the substance,history and function of the each insurance system.
We also study the international comparison of these systems .
The Japanese population is rapidly aging with fewer children,and the Japanese government is suffering from the huge fiscal deficit,so there are many difficulties to maintain these systems.
We have to consider the sustainability of these systems for the purpose of keeping the stability Japanese people’s living for future.

Learning Objectives
The goals of this course are,
to understand the reason why most social security system is operated by social insurance.
to understand how to use each social security system when each student can not keep the stability of living because of sickness,accident.disastar,etc.
especially to understand rightly pension system which is not trusted by young people.

Learning activities outside of classroom
Before each class meeting,students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter from the text.
After each class meeting,students will be expected to review the lesson by reading the text and the summary.
The study time of the preparation and review is at least one hour.

Grading Criteria/Policies
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Term-end examination 60%,in-class contribution 40%.
