授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
This course provides students in English degree programs with the opportunity to understand the significance of work and careers to acquire the mindset and knowledge needed to design their own career. Recognizing that the careers of students in English degree programs are diverse, this course will deal with fundamental topics including the significance of working, the theory and method for self-understanding, the theory and method for occupational aptitude, the method of career design, and human resource management of various organizations. Through this course, students can raise their awareness of the profession and can take concrete actions toward career design that suits their vocational aptitude.

Students will be able to understand and explain:
(1)the significance of work and career and knowledge to design their own career.
(2)their personal profiles including strengths and weaknesses, values, aspirations, skills and lifestyles.
(3)skills and competencies required for careers that students want to explore.
(4)necessity to explore internships and job opportunities spontaneously.

This course consists of lectures by the instructor, students’ presentations and discussions. Students will occasionally work to create a worksheet during the class. All of the class activities will be conducted in English.

Outline of the course. Self-introduction of each participant and instructor. Free discussion on “career” and career development.
Week 2[対面/face to face]:Significance of working and career design (1)
Understand the important points when considering future career paths. Understand what options students have and what actions they have to take while in university.
Week 3[対面/face to face]:Significance of working and career design (2)
Understand the importance of considering your career development throughout your entire life. Sharing the essence of “Life shift”
Week 4[対面/face to face]:Theory and method for self-understanding(1)
Know yourself better by reflecting on your life and telling your own story.
Week 5[対面/face to face]:Theory and method for self-understanding(2)
Make a presentation on your life story.
Week 6[対面/face to face]:Theory and method for vocational aptitude
Understand your personality and work environment that fit your job selection
Week 7[対面/face to face]:Overview of various occupations/jobs
Understand through class discussion that there are various occupations/jobs in society which change as time passes.
Week 8[対面/face to face]:Human resource management in organizations/companies (1)
Understand characteristics of human resource management in Japanese and other international organizations and their implications for students.
Week 9[対面/face to face]:Human resource management in organizations/companies (2)
Understand that organizations/companies have their own organizational cultures which impact on their employees.
Week 10[対面/face to face]:Recruitment activities of Japanese organizations/companies and students’ job hunting activities
Understand how Japanese organizations/companies recruit and nurture young employees. Also, understand Japanese SME (small and medium sized enterprises) as job targets.
Week 11[対面/face to face]:Intercultural Competency
Understand how you can effectively work with/for people with different cultural background and how to develop intercultural competencies.
Week 12[対面/face to face]:Guest Speaker sessions(1) professors
Listen to the guest speaker session on the career of a university professor engaged in research.
Week 13[対面/face to face]:Guest Speaker sessions(2) businesspersons
Listen to the guest speaker session on the career of a businessperson working for company.
Week 14[対面/face to face]:Wrap-up
Review major points students learned in the course and further deepen their understanding through wrap-up Q&A and discussions.

Grading will be decided based on the following criteria:

(2) Students presentation in class: 40%
