Outline (in English)

Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) have two primary roles; to deal with social and community problems by providing services and to advocate these problems to solve them. By these works, NPOs take a leading role in developing civil society. NPOs in Japan were recognized in 1998 through the law promoting nonprofit activities. In the US, NPOs started more than a century ago and have developed rapidly since the 1960s. This class analyzes their significance and examines the history and current situations in the US and Japan.
