Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course provides students with basic knowledge of preservation of the museum collections. The aria of this course is preservation of the museum collections, environmental agents of museums, and preservation of historic and natural properties.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings;
 -acquire knowledge of proper handling, storage, exhibit, restoration, and packing and shipping techniques of museum objects.
 -acquire knowledge of controlling environmental agents (e.g., temperature, relative humidity, light, and air pollution) and Integrated Pest Management.
 -acquire knowledge of preservation and conservation of historic monuments and heritages, and protection of the natural environment.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content by reading references.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the followings;
Term-end examination: 30%, Short reports : 20%, in class contribution: 50%.
