Outline (in English)

In this lecture, you are going to use a textbook that I’ve showed on the list. The lecture introduces the way of how to read the poems of “Manyoshu” to students taking this course.

Learning objectives of this class:
Throughout the process to read Manyo-ka which was written in Kanji over a thousand years ago, students learn Old Japanese Uta-Kotoba (Words for Manyo-ka).
By reading textbook and explaining it, students learn how to find problems, collect materials, argue thoughts, and summarize conclusion.
Students acquire the ability to think from different perspective flexibly.

Learning activities outside of classroom:
Before each class, students need to read the textbook. As preparation and review of the class, students will be expected to spend about 2 hours to understand the course content.

Grading Criteria/Policies:
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Assignment (Comments, thoughts, etc.) at each class meeting (50%), term-end exam (50%).
