Outline (in English)
This class aims at developing students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating to English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrollment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness.
The goal of this writing class is for students with a limited knowledge of spoken and written English to develop their academic writing skills. Through pair work activities as well as individual writing tasks, students will learn the basic principles.
This course integrates reading and speaking skills with prewriting, writing and revising. In class and at home, students will work on exercises and write a variety of paragraphs, including descriptive, narrative, exposition, process, and opinion.
Feedback will be given on each academic writing assignment, assessing important features of academic paragraphs, including the topic sentence, supporting sentences, organization, transitions, language use, style, mechanics, presentation, and the concluding sentence.
