Outline (in English)
The purpose of this class is to develop the communicative competence necessary for effective participation in society and the world of work. The class aims to help students acquire a broad ability to communicate, starting from familiarity with daily conversation to explaining topics of students' own interest or field of study, while deepening understanding of foreign cultures necessary for global citizens. Based on a firm foundation of basic skills, the class focuses on the future needs and interests of students as well as the ability to apply English to research and work in a setting of small, leveled classes for maximum effectiveness.

3. To enhance overall English proficiency.

Work outside of class:
Students will be expected to have completed the required assingments after each class meeting. Your study time will be more than 4 hours for a class.

Grading: Your overall grade in the class will be decided basesd on the following:
Contribution to the class: 20%
Assignment: 30% (including presentation)
Quiz: 20%
Exam: 30%
There is an absence limit of 1/3 of classes.

授業の概要と目的(何を学ぶか)Outline and objectives
本授業は、英語を実社会で有効に使用して仕事をするために必要な英語コミュニケーション力を養成することを目的とする。日常生活に関わる会話に慣れることから、自分の興味のあるトピックや専門領域の事柄について英語で説明できるところまで幅広いコミュニケーション力の習得を目指すとともに、国際人として異文化に対する理解を深める。確かな基礎力の上に、将来的ニーズや興味に即した英語力、研究や実務につながる応用力をつけられるよう、授業は習熟度別の少人数制で行い、効果向上を図る。

In this class, students will study a specific topic each week, using the textbook. You will be expected to attend all classes and contribute to classroom activities: writing/speaking quiz, listening, Q & A, group/pair work, and presentation. You must be willing to try to express your ideas in English. At the beginning of class, feedback for the previous class is given using some comments from submitted reaction papers.
