Outline (in English)
The learning objectives of this class are to develop students’ basic knowledge of accurately constructing English sentences leading to writing paragraphs and essays in which students develop the foundations of academic writing. Attention will be paid to not merely translating into English, but to developing the awareness and skill of writing in a more English-like way, finding and researching good topics, and content-based writing. Classes are leveled and enrolment held to approximately 20 students in order to maximize teaching effectiveness.
The goal of this class is to introduce students to a variety of different essay writing styles and their basic construction. Emphasis will also be placed on grammatical structure. By the end of this course, students will understand how and why to write different kinds of essays and how to turn their essay into a power point oral presentation.
Learning objectives outside of class will be to use the library and internet to effectively research current topics related to their majors. Also video will be watched and summarized.
There will be a short lecture on each type of essay writing style used in this course. Students will then be asked to write a short essay employing the essay type being focused on. Essays topics will be mostly chosen from the student's major. Feedback will be given one to one and as a class.
