Outline (in English)

<Course outline> The aim of this course is to help students acquire the basics of sports nutrition while exercising a few nutritional assessments, so that they will be able to provide evidence-based advice on diet and nutrition.

<Learning Objectives> By the end of the course, students should be able to:
-explain the nature of major nutrients, the relationship between nutrients/foods/diet, and the composition of well-balanced diet.
-explain about the nutritional strategies considering the periodization and the timing in daily training sessions or sports events.
-make suggestion for appropriate diet with the results of some nutritional assessments.
-explain about the dietary approaches for the important issues such as hydration, weight loss/weight gain, sports anemia, female athlete triad, and so on.

<Learning activities outside of classroom> Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have a read the handout downloaded from the e-learning support system. After each class meeting, they will be also expected to understand the course content with the handout, the quiz online, and the homework assignments. Their study time will be about four hours in total for a class.

<Grading Criteria /Policy>
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: Final exam (50%); Assignment 1 & 2 (20%); Assignments 3 (20%); Active participation (10%). If students missed to take the quizzes online 5 times or more, they cannot pass this course.
