Outline (in English)

Statistics is a fundamental and practical discipline used to summarize massive amounts of data and interpret its output appropriately. Statistics is widely used in almost all sports science-related fields, including exercise physiology, sports psychology, and sports sociology. Our society now enters into the "Big Data" era, and statistics is regarded as the most important discipline to survive in this rapidly developing society. This course provides students with beginner-level analytic skills that would be helpful when tackling with bachelor's thesis or work after college graduation.

Until the 2019 academic year, SPSS had been used as statistical analysis software. From the 2020 academic year, the open-source statistical software R (and R Studio) has been adopted in this course to use the software for free even after college graduation.

Please note that students who had taken this course until 2019 will also learn statistics by using R (and R Studio).
