Outline (in English)
This course aims to develop the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) by placing special emphasis on listening skills and ability to express oneself in speaking. You will learn new expressions and practise using them in conversation, discussions and written texts. In this class you will be encouraged to express effectively your ideas which will help you become more active and confident communicators in the global society.

○大学教育で必要となる外国語コミュニケーション能力のうち、英語における「読む」「話す」「書く」能力の向上を目指す。
○現代英語の実情を知り、異文化間コミュニケーションの方法、そして相互理解を図る目的と方法を各自で探る。
到達目標Goal
This course will be conducted mainly in English. First of all, you will develop reading skills by dealing with texts written on a variety of topics. Furthermore, your speaking skills will be enhanced by participating in a variety of activities, such as pair & group work, delivering a presentation and practicing parroting. There will also be listening exercises, as well as short writing assignments based on the topics discussed in each unit. Through these exercises, you will become more familiar with the active use of language and gain higher word consciousness of vocabulary used in context.

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
Students are expected to actively participate in class, prepare short presentations, complete homework assignments and pass the final test. Your work will be evaluated as follows:
- Active participation in class: 20%
- Writing assignments, homework and tests: 40%
- Presentations: 40%
