Outline (in English)
Course outline: This course deals with newspaper English. Students are required to read lots of articles and think world issues critically.
Learning objectives: By the end of the course, students should be able to improve reading skills and acquire knowledge and awareness of current issues.
Learning activities outside of classroom: Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend one hours to understand the course content.
Grading criteria: Final grade will be calculated based on Classwork 30%, Quizzes 30% and Final Examination 40%.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
新聞英語を使い、今までに習得した英語力を充実・発展させながら、正確な読解力の養成を目標とする。また、コミュニケーションスキル、情報リテラシー、論理的な思考力を身につけ、世界を多角的に理解するための幅広い知識を習得する場とすることも目指している。
到達目標Goal
学生は、英字新聞の読み方を習得し、新聞特有の単語の語彙を増やし、英字新聞を抵抗感なく読むことができる。
時事問題の背景を学び、広い視野を持つことができる。

英字新聞に頻出する語彙を身につけながら、テキストで英字新聞を読む練習をしていく。ボキャブラリービルディングを目指し、毎回、前回の復習単語テストを行う。英文を正確に読むという語学的な技術を習得することに加え、様々な問題を考える。
2回の授業で1つのユニットを進め、前半では主にニュースを読み、後半では主に問題演習・語彙力増強を行う。
毎回、リアクションペーパーの提出を求める。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
テキストの予習は必須である。未知の単語は意味・用法を調べ、本文の全訳、問題の解答をしておく。
毎回、前回分の確認テストを行うので、復習しておくように。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は合わせて1時間を標準とします。
