Outline (in English)
Natural disasters result from various factors such as natural phenomena that cause disasters (earthquake, heavy rain, and so on), topographic environment at each area (vulnerability for ground motion, flooding, and so on) and disaster management in each human society (from social infrastructures to human behaviors). We examine topics surrounding natural disasters and their prevention, based on physical-geographic approaches.
Students should be able to do the followings by the end of the course: (1) to explain natural disasters and their prevention from the perspective of natural phenomena, land conditions, and social vulnerability, (2) to conduct survey and presentation, and (3) to use maps. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grading will be decided based on criteria including in-class contribution and reports (100%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
自然災害のすがたは、災害をもたらす自然現象（地震や豪雨など）、土地条件（ゆれやすさや浸水しやすさなど）、人間社会の備え（ハード面からソフト面まで）など、さまざまな側面によって決まります。本研究会では、自然災害と防災にかかわるテーマについて、主に自然地理学的な観点から考えていきます。

自然災害と防災について、災害をもたらす自然現象、土地条件、人間社会の備えなどの諸側面から具体的に説明できる。
調査法や発表法を身につける。
地図を活用できる。

文献講読を中心とし、時の話題の紹介やグループ研究などにも取り組みます。自然災害と防災にかかわる話題を中心に扱います。はじめに、災害を決定づける要因とは何かを過去の災害から具体的に学ぶことで、自然災害と防災を多様な観点から理解し、さらに深めていく流れを予定しています。
課題提出後の授業、または学習支援システムにおいて、提出された課題からいくつかポイントを取り上げ、全体に対してフィードバックを行います。
