Outline (in English)

At the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in November 2021, it was resolved that greenhouse gas emissions shall be reduced to 45% of the 2010 level by 2030. Prior to this, Japan amended the Law Concerning the Promotion of the Measures to Cope with Global Warming in May 2021 to clearly state that it will achieve a decarbonized society by 2050, and also pledged a mitigation target of 45% reduction from 2013 levels by 2030 at COP26. In this class, students will learn from experts in various fields what efforts are being made by each sector to achieve a decarbonized society in Japan. The learning objective is to acquire substantial knowledge regarding what is carried out and what is needed to attain carbon-neutral Japan. Students are required to study at least two hours to prepare and review each lectures. Assessment will be based on participation (40%) and final report or exam (60%).
