Outline (in English)
The natural environment (topography, climate, vegetation, water circulation, and so on) around human society varies in each place worldwide. Their origins are reasonable in terms of science, and they have reached the present status through various global, regional, and local changes in the history of the earth. We examine spatial variation, mechanism, and history of the present-day natural environment in the Japanese island, with in mind the relationship between the natural environment and human society (life, industry, culture, and so on).
Students should be able to do the followings by the end of the course: (1) to explain spatial variation, mechanism, and history of the natural environment, and (2) to explain influence of the natural environment on human society. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grading will be decided based on short reports (40%) and the final report (60%).

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
われわれをとりまく自然環境（地形や気候、植生、水循環ほか）は、地域ごとに個性と必然性を有し、変化を繰り返して現在に至っている。「水や空気のように」あたりまえの存在では決してない。本授業では、日本列島の現在の自然環境を、人間社会（暮らしや産業、文化）との関わりのなかで時空間を行き来しつつ見つめなおす。

自然環境の地域的差異・メカニズム・歴史的変遷を説明できる。
人間社会が自然環境に左右される側面を具体的に記述できる。

自然地理学のアプローチを通じ、強く連関しあう自然界の諸要素を系統的かつ平易に解説する。講義形式。身近な自然環境の具体像を含むスライドも活用する。
課題提出後の授業、または学習支援システムにおいて、提出された課題からいくつかポイントを取り上げ、全体に対してフィードバックを行う。
