Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
The lecture aims at helping students understand various features of the Japanese employment system and, through it, relationships between work environment and private life through daily working life after graduation. For that, students will learn to acquire basic knowledge about various issues relating to employment starting from job searching to wages, promotion, job training, retirement, career changes, trade unions and so on.

【Learning Objectives】
This lecture will help students acquire basic knowledge about jobs and work. At the end of the semester, students will be able to understand basic things that they will face after starting working such as job searching, wages and promotion, in-house training, retirement, career change and trade unions and so on.

【Learning Activities Outside of Classroom】
Students should read materials provided in class before the lecture. Students also should re-read parts of the materials they could not understand well, make clear what they did not understand and be ready to ask questions about them in the next session. The supposed reading hours for this subject is two each before and after the lecture.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Students will be assessed by putting several things together. However there are two main factors: one being a final examination or an essay (80%) and the other being attendance and participation in class discussion (20%). Here it will be checked whether students can understand and use special words used in employment issues, and whether and how well students understand contents of each session etc.
