Outline (in English)

The objective of this course is to examine the policy of local government comprehensively from the viewpoint of sustainability. Firstly, we will think about the conception of sustainability, regional diversity and policy direction. Furthermore, we will discuss the trend of “Glocal policy” , sustainability of urban areas and rural areas, “Policy integration” and SDGs, traffic policy, urban sustainability risk, shrinking city problems and policy development, cooperation policy between urban and rural areas, etc.
The purpose of this course is for students to understand modern trends
of local governance needed for public policy research on sustainable community.

At the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the following:
(1)Build intellectual foundation and form broad perspective for advanced research.
(2)Gain policy analysis ability of regional sustainable policy.

Students need to prepare and review each session by using distributed materials and other references, and to work on some assignments. Preparatory and review time for this class are 2 hours each.

Your overall grade in this class will be decided based on the following:
Active class participation:50%,Assignments:10%,Report on applicability to doctoral dissertaiton:40%
