Outline (in English)

The purpose of this class is to study the causal relationships between political institutional factors and public policy outcomes or economic performance from comparative political perspectives. The class will begin with reviewing the relevant literature and then argue about the theoretical accounts.
First, we shed light on the elements of political institutional arrangements such as interest organizational configurations, electoral systems, party systems, and parliament government linkages.
Second, we pick up some of public policy areas (ex., industrial policies, financial policies, welfare policies and so on) and compare the differences of economic performance among the main OECD countries, 1960-2015.
Third, the impacts of the above political institutional variable on these policy outcomes and economic performance are examined and assessed by using various quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
Finally, the class will discuss about the comparative methods for explaining political dimensions of the economic-policy results.
The aim of this course is to help students acquire A. After each class meeting, students will be expected to understand the relevant chapters from the texts.
Final grade in the class will be decided based on the following:
Term-end report (50%), Short report(20%), and in-class contribution(30%).
