Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
Facilitation is one of the skills and mindsets necessary for the policy process in an increasingly complex and diverse society. It is an approach that supports and promotes co-creation and collaboration among diverse people by creating a participatory space. In this class, you will understand and acquire the position of participation and deliberation in the policy process, the significance of facilitation in this process, the basic knowledge and skills for effective facilitation, and the mindset for acting as a facilitator through lectures and exercises.
(Learning Objectives)
1. You will be able to explain the methodology of participant-centered consensus building and problem solving, and the significance and role of facilitation in such settings.
2. You will be able to work toward fostering "subjectivity as a party" and "creativity through interaction," which are the keys to participation and collaboration in the policy process.
3. Through the experience of the exercises, you will be able to demonstrate leadership in fostering a team that utilizes the individuality of diverse people and cooperates together.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content.

Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following;
short reports: 50%, in class contribution: 50%.
