Outline (in English)

[Course Outline]
This course is an advanced course for International Development and Development Assistance. Development is one of the global issues in the current world as shown in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). International Development Assistance has been perceived not only as a strong tool for development of many societies and/or economies but also as a way to strengthen world peace. The class consists of lectures and readings focusing on the history and the objectives of international development efforts and relationship between rich countries and poor countries putting a special emphasis on Japan's role in the international society.

[Learning Objectives]
Completing the course, students are expected;
1) to acquire basic knowledge on history and institutions in international development efforts,
2) to acquire basic knowledge on current/important issues in international development, and
3) to critically analyze who engages in international development efforts and why.

{Learning Activities outside of classroom]
The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each.

[Grading Criteria/Policy]
Grading will be based on a comprehensive evaluation of the final report (50%), the content of each assigned report (30%), and contributions to the class and discussions (20%).
