Outline (in English)
（Course outline）The theme of this course is theories of international journalism in the information age. This course provides opportunities for students to critique news coverage in Japanese and foreign media outlets and discuss mainly the impact of social media; journalism and diplomacy; and political, economic and social factors influencing media content.
（Learning Objectives）At the end of the course, students are expected to do the followings:
A. Have a clear understanding of the principles of journalism.
B. Have a clear understanding of the integral role of international journalism, especially in the face of increasingly serious global issues such as migration, climate crisis and the pandemic.
C. Discuss the most pressing issues facing international journalism today.
（Learning activities outside of classroom）Students will be expected to read articles in major Japanese and foreign media regularly about diplomatic and global issues.
（Grading Criteria /Policy）Grading will be determined by 30% class attendance, 40% presentations and discussion, 30% writing assignments.

国際報道の現状、影響、重要性を分析し、ジャーナリズムの役割、その問題点や対策等を重点的に議論する。下記が主な内容となる。
１．気候変動、パンデミックなど深刻化する国際問題と報道、SNSの影響 ２.外交とジャーナリズム ３．国際報道にみられる政治的、経済的、社会的影響

ジャーナリズムの役割、ジャーナリズムの倫理、ジャーナリズムが直面する問題などに理解を深めることができるようになる。

国内外の問題に関する、日本、海外メディアの報道を検証しながら、ジャーナリズムの本来の役割について議論する。あらかじめ与えられた課題に関して各自が発表、また、その内容に関して議論する。

メディアの多様化、SNSの影響
授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
グローバルな問題に関する報道に目を向け、批評を行う。また、報道の方法、背景などを周囲の人と話し合う。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は、各2時間を標準とする。

平常点 30%、授業での発表や議論 40%、レポート（内容評価）30%
学生の意見等からの気づきChanges following student comments
以前は、授業で配布する記事、資料、また、授業中に扱う海外の報道番組は英文がほとんどだったが、学生の英語力に個人差があるため、日本語の記事、資料を増やしている。
映画監督や福島原発事故避難者とのインタビューなどは学生が積極的に参加していた。
