Outline (in English)

【Course Outline】
The theme of this course is the indigenous people and international law. Although the students who will be enrolled for the Graduate School of Intercultural Communication may have little knowledge on international law, this course will enable students to understand the way how the international laws have treated culture and the livelihoods of the indigenous people.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1) Explaining how the International Law has treated the rights of the indigenous people.
2) Explaining how the Intercultural Studies relates to the International Law in terms of indigenous people's rights analytically.
3) Explaining the summary of the academic literature in the International Law.

【Learning Activities】
Before each class meeting, students will be expected to have read the assigned literature. Your study time will be more than four hours for a class.

【Grading Criteria / Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following
1) Extent of understanding about the assigned literature including the presentation based on your reading: 60%
2) Short reports on your own research: 20%
3) In class contribution: 20%
