Outline (in English)

This course introduces the theories and concepts of nationalism and ethnicity from the perspective of cultural anthropology, and to acquire the ability to think in relation to students own research themes. ​At the end of the course, students are expected to understand how nation is defined and how people use this concept for nation-building, economic development and welfare policy. Before/after each class meeting, students will be expected to spend four hours to understand the course content. Grading will be decided based on ​​​briefing paper and report (30%) and in class contribution (70%).
