Outline (in English)

Course outline:
In this class, we will discuss Joan C. Toronto's "Who Cares? How to Reshape a Democratic Politics," along with the chapters by Yayo Okano included in the Japanese edition (2020), and "The Care Manifesto: The Politics of Interdependence" by the Care Collective (2021). Students will learn about the practice of care at various levels, including family, community, and the nation. They will also read specific literary works and academic articles on literary studies.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the followings:
1) Acquire basic knowledge about the ethics of care.
2) Read literary and cultural works from the perspective of feminism and care.
Learning activities outside of the classroom:
Students are required to read the reference material by the next session (one to three hours for every session). They are also expected to be prepared to deliver presentations in class.
Grading Criteria /Policy:
The final grade will be decided based on the following:
Involvement during discussion and presentation: 60%
Final essay: 40%
