Outline (in English)

This course provides the participants with opportunities to familiarize themselves with the concept of parody: arguably one of the great tools to analyze and compare different cultures built on various languages.

While the point of embarkation is set on traditional arts of Japan, the destination is up to each participant. Students are encouraged to provide topics they can honestly relate to, including various genres of so-called subculture.

The students are expected to spend a total of 4 hours in reviewing and preparing for each class meeting.

The grading criteria is as follows: 50% presentation and participation in discussions, 50% final paper. Students that successfully achieve 60% or more of course goals will be able to earn a passing grade for the course.
