Outline (in English)

[Course Outline] This seminar covers inter-national cooperation, inter-cultural cooperation and various social problems or "global issues" which demand such cooperations, including poverty, environmental destruction, inequality, conflicts, refugees, or lack of education. It focuses actors (governments, international organizations, NGOs, companies), social norms (voluntarism, dependency, good faith, mutual help) or representations through various media. The goals of this seminar are to enable students to understand the relevant issues in diverse perspectives, and to develop their ideas and skills to conduct his/her own research.

[Learning Objectives]
By the end of the course;
A. The second year students are expected to understand the methodology of social science and humanities, and to write a short essay on the topic relevant to SA or SJ based on it.
B. The third year students are expected to design the research project in accordance with the relevant literature review and the academic methodology.
C. The fourth year students are expected to complete the qualified academic research paper of more than 20,000 letters in Japanese or 8,000 words in English.

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
1. Students will be expected to have completed the required reading assignments before each class. Your study time will be more than two hours for a class.
2. Students will be expected to have completed the required writing assignments after each class. Your study time will be more than two hours for a class.
3. In addition, students will be expected to present your research at least once each semester. Your preparation time will be more than ten hours.

[Grading Criteria/Policies]
Your overall grade in the class will be decided based on the following.
Assignments: 60%, in class contribution: 40%.
