Outline (in English)

This seminar encourages students to tackle the big yet underrated question: what makes us human? While we take into consideration all kinds of arts from different cultures and periods, Japanese literature, from classical to modern, will be the pivot.

The objective of this seminar is to acquire the set of skills necessary to convey, with clear language, one's idea about cultural issues, both orally and in writing.

The students are expected to spend a total of 4 hours in reviewing and preparing for each class meeting.

The grading criteria is as follows: 30% participation, 30% presentation, and 40% written assignments. Students that successfully achieve 60% or more of course goals will be able to earn a passing grade for the course.
