Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This African Studies seminar class is designed to expose students to varying interdisciplinary approaches to and perspectives on the Continent.
[Learning objectives]
By the end of this course, students will have (1) a solid understanding of important themes in the study of African history, culture, and society, (2) confidence in expressing their views orally and in written form, and (3) the ability to undertake independent research projects.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students are expected to read the materials as instructed and prepare for class participation and discussion. Preparatory study and review time for this class are 2 hours each.
[Grading criteria]
Evaluation will be based on contribution to discussion (10%), presentation (30%) and final essay (60%).
