Outline (in English)

[Course outline]
This course introduces how Japan's self image differs from the ideas and opinions held by the people of China, Taiwan and Korea, throughout history and what historical events, issues and persons of note helped to shape these ideas and opinions.
[Learning Objectives]
The goal of this course is to understand the reasons for the difference between how Japan sees itself, and how they are seen by the countries of China, Taiwan and Korea, through the use of text and visual materials.
[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Before each class, students will be expected to have read the relevant chapter(s) from an assigned text. Required study/preparation time will be four, or more, hours per class.
[Grading Criteria/Policies]
Each student is expected to give at least one presentation during the course. Grading will be decided based on the quality of the student's performance(60%) and in class participation(40%).
