Outline (in English)

This course invites the students to participate in the rigorous yet fulfilling challenge of translation. Students are to tackle different assignments each week to appreciate various aspects of language and its relation to culture, while working on their own projects outside the classroom that are to be handed in by the end of the term.

Students will be able to renew their knowledge on language and how it relates to each culture. This class offers an opportunity to vastly improve the command of both English and Japanese, by working individually and in groups.

The students are expected to spend a total of 4 hours in reviewing and preparing for each class meeting, and working on their individual projects.

The grading criteria is as follows: 50% weekly in-class assignments, 50% individual project. Students that successfully achieve 60% or more of course goals will be able to earn a passing grade for the course.

Default language used in class
