Outline (in English)

・Course outline: This course is designed to help students understand intercultural issues in terms of religion, gender, race, and class, through dance or entertainment films which show characteristic body movements and their social background. By taking the intercultural conflicts derived from "cultural schemata, " which often result in stereotypical misunderstandings, this course aims to explore how to transgress such schemata.
・Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to interpret cultural elements seen in films, and understand how such elements lead to stereotypes or prejudices. Through the interpretation and understanding, they will be able to recognize a crucial role in a society that dance and entertainment culture play.
・Learning activities outside of the classroom: see as many films as possible, particularly those mentioned in class.
・Grading Criteria/Policy: Class participation 50%, Final Paper 50%.
