Outline (in English)
【Course outline】
This course aims to gain a good understanding of the history and various current affairs concerning Central Asia. Special attention will be paid to its relationship with Russia. After reviewing the modern history of Central Asia, we will explore various key topics regarding the culture and society of the region. We will also consider the international relations surrounding Central Asia.
【Learning Objectives】
By the end of this course, students will be able to 1) explain various matters related to the history and current status of Russia and Central Asian countries, and 2) analyze the similarities and differences between Russia and Central Asia.
【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Read through the reference materials before class. After the class, review the lecture contents again for a better understanding.
【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be based on the following:
Term-end examination: 70%, Reflection papers: 30%.

授業の概要と目的（何を学ぶか）Outline and objectives
本講義では、中央アジアの過去と現在について、特にロシアとの関係性に注目して学ぶ。主に近代以降の歴史を振り返ったのち、文化と社会に関わる様々なテーマを取り上げて検討を加える。また、ロシア・中央アジアをめぐる国際関係についても考察する。
到達目標Goal
(1)ロシアおよび中央アジア諸国の歴史と現状に関わる様々な事項を説明できる。(2)ロシアと中央アジアの類似点及び相違点について自分なりに考察できる。

授業時間外の学習（準備学習・復習・宿題等）Work to be done outside of class (preparation, etc.)
各週のテーマに関わる参考文献を予め示すので、授業前に目を通しておく。授業の後には理解が不十分であった箇所を洗い出し、自分で調べる。調べてもわからなかったことについてはその次の授業で質問する。本授業の準備学習・復習時間は各２時間を標準とする。

成績評価の方法と基準Grading criteria
平常点（リアクションペーパーの提出）（30％）、期末試験（70％）。この成績評価の方法をもとに、本授業の到達目標の60%以上を達成した者を合格とする。
