Outline (in English)

【Course outline】
This course aims to gain a good understanding of the history and various current affairs concerning Central Asia. Special attention will be paid to its relationship with Russia. After reviewing the modern history of Central Asia, we will explore various key topics regarding the culture and society of the region. We will also consider the international relations surrounding Central Asia.

【Learning Objectives】
By the end of this course, students will be able to 1) explain various matters related to the history and current status of Russia and Central Asian countries, and 2) analyze the similarities and differences between Russia and Central Asia.

【Learning activities outside of classroom】
Read through the reference materials before class. After the class, review the lecture contents again for a better understanding.

【Grading Criteria /Policy】
Your overall grade in the class will be based on the following:
Term-end examination: 70%, Reflection papers: 30%.
