Outline (in English)

(Course outline)
In this class, you will learn how data, which may be obtained not only from data created by computers, but also from various sensors, human behavior, and information released by public institutions as "open data", is used in social activities. The keywords are "data science", "Internet of Things (IoT)", "open data" and "big data". Students will learn and practice the handling and visualisation of various types of data.
(Learning Objectives)
- Learn about some examples of data science as a way to make use of the vast amounts of data described by terms such as Big Data, IoT and Open Data.
- We will learn about the common properties of data with different contents and formats, and statistics.
- Learn and practice how the same data can be communicated in different ways depending on how it is visualised.
(Learning activities outside of classroom)
You will need to do some independent study (revision) to make up for any difficulties you have in understanding the lecture content.
(Grading Criteria /Policy)
Grading will be decided based on the mid-term exam (20%), in-class contribution(20%), and the term-end preseentaion (30%) and report (30%).
