Outline (in English)

[Course Outline]
In our daily life, we find a large amount of data available through the internet and social media. It is often difficult to extract only necessary information from the various kind of massive data and interpret the information. Statistics is a methodology for quantifying and objectively analyzing data.

[Learning Objectives]
Students should be able to do the followings at the end of this course:
- Understand basic knowledge of combinatorics and probability, and apply it to concrete calculation
- Master basics of data visualization
- Understand basic statistics
- Understand some ways of interpret results of data analytics
- Understand the notion of probability distribution and its application to real world problems

[Learning activities outside of classroom]
Students will be expected to have completed homework after each class meeting. A typical time for the homework and to understand the course content after a class meeting is four hours.

[Grading Criteria/Policies]
Final grade will be calculated according to the following process: Mid-term examination (30%) and Term-end examination (70%).
