Outline (in English)

On the Internet, various problems such as fake news, flame wars, defamation, and slander have been pointed out, but on the other hand, people's information intake behavior is shifting more and more to the Internet. As a result, the status of the traditional mass media (newspapers, broadcasting, publishing, movies, etc.) has relatively declined, and the Internet's social networking services and various other media and services seem to be flourishing. On the other hand, mass media news organizations are the mainstream providers of news, and various program contents are provided by broadcasting and movies. It has become difficult to capture various events in media and communication with the traditional independent approach of each media. One reason for this is that senders and receivers have become relative and there is no clear division between them. In this lecture, I will review the social functions of media and communication, and discuss the state of media and communication from the perspective of the business structures that support them, as well as analytical methods and solutions to the various communication problems occurring in contemporary society. In particular, we will discuss the relationship between mass media and social media. In particular, we aim to acquire a critical perspective that enables us to discuss the relationship between mass media and social media from both perspectives.
