Outline (in English)

How to search for the materials you need to do sociological research? How to raise sociological questions from the encounter with materials? Practical lessons using archives and materials facilities.

Learning Goal:Students are required to use archives and resource facilities, formulate actual questions, conduct analytical exercises and write essays. This term, with the theme of the 'Asian Pacific War', the aim is to develop evidence-based argumentation skills by considering the relevance between sources and the challenges of media representation.

Learning activities outside of classroom:The standard preparation and review time for this class is 2 hours each. It is not possible to collect sufficient material, conduct field research (visits), analyse and review in each class period. Each lesson will indicate what you need to prepare for the next lesson, so please aim to prepare accordingly.

Grading Criteria:Evaluation is based on submission of interim report (30%), final report (30%), research plan (10%) and visit notes (10%) (80% in total) + participation and content of discussions (20%).
